Joint Replacement Center
Joint replacement process
The Joint Center Process begins six to eight weeks prior to surgery when patients get started on a physical strengthening and educational program. Each patient is encouraged to have a family member or friend attend the pre-surgery educational sessions and serve as a coach to assist him or her through the process. A coach assists, supports, and encourages the patient through the intensive therapy and rehabilitation process.
- During his or her first visit patients will attend and educational session where they will be given a booklet of information focusing on the joint replacement they will be receiving. Upon receiving the booklet patients will be able to go through it with one of our trained nurses and address any questions or concerns they might have regarding joint replacement. Also included in the educational session is a tour of the department.
- In preparation for the surgery patients will also be given a physical strengthening routine.
- The day after the patient has surgery, the therapy process begins. Coaches are encouraged to continue their support through these final stages by participating with the patient in group activities such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and meals. Patients normally have a 3-4 day hospital stay and then return home for continued Outpatient therapy.
The joint replacement Center promotes a well environment. This unit is not for sick patients. During their stay all patients wear their own clothes as they participate in group activities with other patients.
