Inpatient Rehabilitation Services

Following illness or injury, patients often need continued rehabilitation services to maximize functional outcomes with the goal of returning to their prior level of function.
The Acute Rehabilitation Unit is an inpatient unit within Evangelical Community Hospital. We offer a team approach with the nursing staff and the rehabilitation staff including occupational, physical and speech therapies to provide comprehensive care for each patient.

The rehabilitation staff is highly-trained to treat those patients who have had a stroke or other neurological diagnoses, total joint replacements, fractures, trauma, amputations, general weakness and debilitation, & compromised cardiovascular and respiratory function. Common impairments addressed in rehabilitation are: loss of mobility, difficulty with ambulation, loss of coordination and balance, difficulty in everyday activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, bathing, homemaking), difficulty swallowing, difficulty with speech and language, and judgment difficulties.

The staff will make recommendations based on the resident’s needs for equipment, such as a walker or a cane, wheelchair seating, or bathroom needs to maximize their independence with functional mobility. Prior to discharge, the staff may also perform a home assessment, taking the resident and a family member to the home to evaluate the environment and ensure safety within the home.

Acute Rehabilitation

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit is an inpatient unit within Evangelical Community Hospital. This unit offers an interdisciplinary team approach with 24 hour nursing care, medical supervision by a physician and occupational, physical, and speech therapies to provide comprehensive care for each patient. Patients are often admitted to this unit following illness or injury, when continued rehabilitation services are needed. The goal of the unit is to maximize the patient's functional outcomes in order to return to their prior level of function.

The rehabilitation staff is highly-trained to treat patients who have suffered from a stroke or other neurological diagnoses, total joint replacements, fractures, trauma, amputations, general weakness and debilitation and compromised cardiovascular and respiratory function. Common impairments addressed in rehabilitation are: loss of mobility, difficulty with ambulation, loss of coordination and balance, difficulty in everyday activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, bathing, homemaking), difficulty swallowing, difficulty with speech and language and judgment difficulties.

The staff will work with the patient and family in the discharge planning process. Recommendations will be made based on the patient's needs for equipment to maximize independence with mobility and activities of daily living. Other specialized services may be offered, such as a home assessment or community re-entry. These activities give the staff useful information on environmental and safety challenges the patient might face at discharge.
