“Connecting Through Care”
2009-2010 Annual Fund
Our family has always felt a special connection to Evangelical Community Hospital. In fact, most of our family has lived in Central Pennsylvania for generations, and we have relied on Evangelical for care throughout our lives. That unique bond is one of many reasons we are pleased to co-chair the 2009-2010 Annual Fund, “Connecting Through Care.”
Evangelical Community Hospital has been a blessing for our family. Our personal connection with the Hospital began before our daughters were born when we took classes with Community Health Education to prepare for childbirth. When our oldest daughter, Lauren, became ill, Evangelical was the first place we turned for help. She had extended stays at Evan through her senior year in high school because of a rare gastrointestinal disease. We will never forget one difficult day at a crucial point during her illness when a Hospital volunteer passed us in the hallway. Things were not looking good, but the volunteer looked directly at us and said, “Everything will be okay.” Those words stayed with us and gave us hope. Within a few months Lauren had, indeed, miraculously recovered.
Three years ago, we once again had to persevere through a difficult time with the help of Evangelical when Luann received a diagnosis of a rare form of uterine cancer. Again, our caregivers all worked together to make sure we received the best care possible locally. We were referred to Johns Hopkins to a specialized center where we received a personalized cancer treatment regimen, which was ultimately administered through the Cancer Care Center in Lewisburg. The doctors and nurses were great throughout this difficult time. Now that this is all behind us, we are so grateful that Luann has made a complete recovery and has returned to a full, healthy life.
Over the years we have seen many friends and neighbors struggle financially. We know the worry that comes along with paying for care associated with serious illness. For this reason, we choose to direct our contributions to Charity Care. Evangelical provides an amazing benefit to Valley residents, and millions of dollars to care for those who can’t afford it, each year.
We have seen many sides of healthcare over the years. In the end, we have always returned to Evangelical for our treatment, strength and healing. That special connection is not something we will ever take for granted.
We hope you will join us in making a gift to the Hospital’s 2009-2010 Annual Fund, “Connecting Through Care.” You can send your gift by downloading a
