Evangelical Community Hospital Warns of Phone Scam
February 26, 2018
Evangelical Community Hospital warns patients to beware of a phone scam with regard to payment of hospital-related bills. The scams have become so sophisticated that they can sound real and even appear as if they are coming from local phone numbers using caller ID spoofing technology.
Evangelical does call about collection for current or delinquent accounts. Patients are encouraged, when receiving any call identified as Evangelical, to confirm that you are speaking to an actual representative from the Hospital. Do not hesitate to ask the representative to verify several factors including your date of birth, address, and/or date of service for the expense. Evangelical representatives willingly work with patients to confirm those details as a form of legitimizing the call.
The Hospital encourages patients to use caution when providing personal information about their account over the phone. Callers from Evangelical do not make reference that they are calling about a bill in their initial message. Scammers may use that language as a scare tactic. Evangelical’s calls are never aggressive or threatening in nature.
