A Collaboration of Care: Evangelical Hospice and Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village Combine Their Expertise

Evangelical Hospice now serves more patients and families through a unique agreement with Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg, a facility of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries. This collaboration of services ensures residents of Buffalo Valley have access to specialty care in their last days.

Under the agreement, when a resident of Buffalo Valley becomes hospice appropriate Evangelical Hospice provides those services in place, where their residents are comfortable and feel at home. Evangelical Hospice staff act as specialists by working directly with patient families and the staff of Buffalo Valley in making suggestions for the best possible care.

Robert Musser, MBA, NHA, Administrator of Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, said, “We are excited about this opportunity to bring together two high-quality healthcare organizations to benefit our residents. Under the agreement we are just bringing another layer of care to our already exceptional services for our senior living residents.”

Evangelical Community Hospital’s comprehensive hospice program assists patients and their families with physical, emotional and spiritual needs that may accompany a life-limiting illness. This is done through specially trained individuals who dedicate themselves to easing the pain and suffering of the terminally ill and their families through supportive care. The team of Evangelical Hospice includes nurses who specialize in end-of-life care and are on call 24 hours a day, hospice aides for personal care and comfort, social workers for emotional support, a chaplain, as well as over 80 volunteers to provide companionship and support.

Kay Holdren, Director, said, “Evangelical Hospice has been providing quality end-of-life care for 24 years and is pleased to now extend its philosophy of care and hospice expertise, which emphasizes symptom management and adding quality of life to each day, to the residents of Buffalo Valley.”
