Evangelical Earns Outstanding Patient Experience Award Five Years in a Row

Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, recently became one of two hospitals in Pennsylvania to be recognized for consistent, positive patient experience, an evaluation of overall care and comfort from the time the patient has an onset of symptoms through recovery.
 
For a fifth consecutive year, Evangelical Community Hospital has earned the Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. Achieving this accomplishment makes Evangelical among the 15% hospitals in the nation who have mastered an approach to patient experience that stands out among the rest.
 
Patient experience reflects a patient’s perceptions of all the interactions that take place while receiving care in the hospital. Patient experience includes communication delivered by doctors and nurses, fast response to medical concerns and needs, attention to pain levels, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions.
 
At Evangelical, patients are sent a survey after receiving inpatient, outpatient, One Day Surgery and Emergency Department care. The multiple-question survey was developed by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) and Healthgrades obtains the survey data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This data serves as the basis for comparison to other healthcare facilities and the distinction of earning an award.

In addition to the Patient Experience honor, Healthgrades also recognized Evangelical Community Hospital with these awards:
    - Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Heart Attack two years in a row (2012-2013)
    - Five-Star Recipient for Total Hip Replacement (2013)
    - Five-Star Recipient for Gastrointestinal Procedures and Surgery two years in a row (2012-2013)
    - Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis (whole-body inflammatory state caused by severe infection) six years in a row (2008-2013)
