Flu Shots Still Available at Evangelical Community Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Center

Flu seasons are unpredictable. The timing, length and severity vary each year, typically with a peak during January and February and can last through the end of March. In early January, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 25 states were reporting widespread flu activity while another 20 were reporting regional activity.

One way to protect you and your family is by getting the flu and/or pneumonia shot. Evangelical Community Hospital has vaccines still available at its Community Health and Wellness Center located on Route 15, next to the Hospital.

The CDC recommends that everyone aged 6 months and older should get a flu vaccination each year to protect themselves and their loved ones against the flu. Vaccination is especially important for people who are at high risk of serious flu-related complications like young children and people 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain chronic medical conditions, like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease.

Evangelical offers a variety of vaccination times. Weekly vaccinations are available Mondays from 9 am – 12 pm; Wednesdays from noon – 4 pm; and Fridays from 9 am – 12 pm and 1-3 pm. Appointments are preferred and can be scheduled by calling 570-768-3200. The cost for a flu shot is $30 and pneumonia vaccines are available for an additional $65. Some insurances do cover the costs associated with vaccines at a community clinic. Individuals are asked to bring insurance cards to the vaccination appointment.

People who are at high risk for influenza complications should see their health care provider promptly if they get flu symptoms, which includes fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, and fatigue. Healthcare providers can determine if a patient needs influenza antiviral drugs that treat flu illness and prevent serious flu complications. Flu complications include pneumonia, bronchitis, as well as sinus and ear infections.

If you are newly insured or looking for a healthcare provider, Evangelical offers a Find a Doctor Line at 1-877-989-EVAN (3826) to help you find a doctor that is convenient, meets your healthcare needs, and accepts your individual insurances.

Evangelical is a non-profit organization that employs approximately 1,460 people and has more than 170 employed and non-employed physicians on staff. The Hospital is licensed to accommodate 130 overnight patients, 12 acute rehab patients and 18 bassinets. The Hospital serves residents throughout the Central Susquehanna Valley, including those living in Snyder, Union, Northumberland and Lycoming Counties.
