What is an MRI-guided breast biopsy?

MRI-guided biopsies are used when an abnormality of concern is identified during an MRI exam and can not be visualized by ultrasound or mammogram. This outpatient procedure is performed by our radiologists in the department of Imaging Services' MRI suite.

The radiologist will insert a core needle into the area of concern and remove a small tissue sample.

More Breast MRI information is available in our Imaging Services department.
