I’m a pretty active guy. I like to golf. I was a coach for high school baseball and softball. But after years of being so physical and active, the lifestyle took a toll on my knees. I was to a point where I could walk up the stairs, but to walk back down, I had to turn around and go backwards. It just wasn’t working. I put it off for as long as I could, but at 60 years old, I decided to have knee replacement surgery.
Charles Cole, MD, from SUN Orthopaedic Group, Inc., performed my knee replacement surgery, where I had both knees replaced at the same time. From the very first meeting, I knew I was in the right hands. The education I received prior to the surgery was tremendous. They let you know exactly what to expect, when to expect it. They even gave you exercises to do before your surgery, so you are really ready.
I had my surgery at 10 am on a Tuesday, and by 1 pm I was in my room. The next morning, 6:30 am, I was out of bed, walking down the hall. Soon after that, I was in physical therapy with some of the best physical therapists I’ve ever met. In fact, the entire staff was outstanding. The nurses, Dr. Cole, occupational therapists, everyone was wonderful to me!
Everyone was so attentive to my needs, too. At one point, I had pushed myself too far in my rehab exercises, and one nurse could tell just by looking at me. She said, “Let’s get you back to your room to rest.”
Overall, my experience was tremendous. With my new knees, I’m back to doing the active things I like to do, like golfing. My wife and I have a two-acre lot, and yesterday I walked the whole thing and fertilized it by hand. I can walk down the stairs the right way now too!
I would recommend to anyone thinking about hip or knee joint replacement to go to Evangelical. There is no better place!
